Dear Families,
I truly believe that God has a sense of humor. Why else would
the Jewish High Holy Days fall right at the start of school!?!
In order to prepare for school, the office has been busy with
class placements, hiring fabulous teachers and organizing
manuals and books. In order to properly prepare for the High
Holy Days, we are challenged to think about the changes in
ourselves that we wish to encounter. The Hebrew month of Elul
that precedes Rosh HaShanah is the perfect time to honestly
evaluate ourselves and commit to better behavior. We ask
ourselves, "What mistakes have I made? Whom have I hurt? How can
I be better?"
According to Jewish tradition, this month is the time where we
are to resolve conflicts and improve our relationships with
family members and friends, neighbors and fellow congregants.
Only then can we enter the High Holy Days with a pure heart,
filled with the best of intentions for a good new year.
May each of us be blessed with a new year filled with good
relationships, positive Jewish experiences in our school and
congregation, love, joy and peace.
See you on Sunday, September 12th!
L'Shalom,
Rabbi Joui Hessel, RJE
Associate Rabbi, Director of Religious Education and Engagement
